Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about Chekko cold-pressed oils — honest answers, no fluff.

Can I use Chekko peanut oil for deep frying?

Yes — and it excels at it. Chekko's cold-pressed peanut oil has a natural smoke point suitable for medium to high-heat frying, stir-frying, sautéing, and wok cooking. Our oil is pressed below 40°C, preserving the natural nutrients and rich peanut flavour. For very high-heat deep frying (above 375°F / 190°C), we recommend using it at medium-high heat to protect the nutrients and flavour. The result: crispier food with a rich, clean peanut taste you simply don't get from refined oils.

Is Chekko peanut oil safe for people with peanut allergies?

This is important: Chekko cold-pressed peanut oil is unrefined and may retain peanut proteins that can trigger allergic reactions. It is not suitable for people with peanut allergies. Highly refined peanut oils remove these proteins during processing and are generally considered allergy-safe — but Chekko's value is that nothing is stripped or refined away. If you or someone in your household has a peanut allergy, please consult your doctor before using any cold-pressed peanut oil.

⚠ If you have a peanut allergy, Chekko's sesame oil, coconut oil, or sunflower oil are great peanut-free alternatives.

Does Chekko oil come with a pouring spout? How should I store it?

The 1-litre tin includes a built-in precision pour spout integrated directly into the lid — just tilt and pour with zero drip, no funnel needed. The 5-litre tin also includes a built-in spout for easy, mess-free pouring.

For storage: No refrigeration needed

Why is cold-pressed oil more expensive than regular cooking oil?

Cold-pressed oil requires 3–4× more raw material to produce the same volume as solvent-extracted oil. Industrial hexane extraction squeezes every last drop from seeds — cold-pressing uses only gentle mechanical pressure. The result is a lower yield, higher quality oil. You're also paying for what's not in it: no hexane, no bleaching agents, no deodorising chemicals, no synthetic antioxidants. Think of it the way you think of extra-virgin olive oil vs. refined vegetable oil — the process defines the price and the quality.

What dishes are Chekko oils best suited for?

Peanut oil — Southern fried chicken, french fries, burgers, deep frying, stir-fry, wok cooking, BBQ marinades, Indian curries, and tadkas. Its high smoke point and bold nutty flavour make it a go-to for everything from backyard cookouts to weeknight stir-fries.
Sesame oil — coleslaw dressings, grilled corn, BBQ glazes, baked goods, roasted vegetables, noodle dishes, dipping sauces, and light sautéing. Its warm, nutty depth adds a toasty richness to baked breads and muffins, and a smoky-sweet finish to grilled meats and veggies. In Ayurvedic tradition, cold-pressed sesame oil is also used for oil pulling — swishing for 10–20 minutes for oral health benefits.
Coconut oil — baking, South Indian cooking, stir-frying, and as a skin or hair moisturiser. Coconut oil is the most commonly recommended oil for oil pulling in Ayurveda, thanks to its lauric acid content and antimicrobial properties.
Castor oil — strictly for external use only. Excellent for hair growth, scalp massage, thickening lashes and brows, and skin care. Not for cooking or consumption.
